Bar Council launches new training scheme for Chinese lawyers - opportunity for chambers to host lawyers

The International Committee is pleased to launch its new training scheme for Chinese lawyers, replacing the Lord Chancellor’s Training Scheme which ended in 2011 after twenty successful years.

The new scheme will take place from 11 June to 20 July 2012, and will focus on the training of approximately ten young Chinese lawyers in international commercial law through practical placements in chambers, together with a bespoke academic programme provided by BPP University College in London.

Survey – Standards of Criminal Advocacy

The BSB has recently commissioned ORC International to conduct a survey seeking the views of the profession as to the frequency with which they encounter underperformance in the criminal courts. The results will provide an important baseline prior to the implementation of the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates.

Important information for pupil barristers coming to the end of their 1st Six

When the relevant parts of the Legal Services Act 2007 came into force on 1 January 2010, it became a criminal offence to undertake a reserved legal activity, such as exercising a right of audience, without having in force a valid practising certificate. Therefore 2nd Six pupils require a practising certificate to be legally entitled to exercise reserved legal activities.
