Following a successful mission to Moscow last summer the Bar Council has intensified its relations with the Moscow City Bar, leading to the signature of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in March. Under this MoC both organisations will work more closely together in a number of ways.
The first project will be to analyse the practical effects of the Anglo-Saxon rule of law principle on the one hand and the “Rechtsstaat” concept developed in the civil law countries on the other. A small symposium on 18th June at the Bar Council will examine a Russian and an English and Welsh paper on this matter. Following this we hope to draw some joint conclusions to be discussed at an event in Russia later in 2010 or in 2011.
