The Law Commission has launched a consultation on licensing for taxis and private hire vehicles.
Its proposals would bring stretch limousines and bicycle rickshaws into the licensing system but keep charity volunteers and child-minders out of it. Complex local regulations for private hire vehicles would be replaced with national safety standards for all vehicles.
The Law Commission has said that the iconic London black cab would not be affected. The consultation, ‘Reforming the law of taxi and private hire services’, closes on 10 August 2012.
