From 18-20 June, the Bar Council hosted a delegation of seventeen advocates from the Bombay Bar Association and solicitors from the Bombay Incorporated Law Society.
The aim of the visit was to facilitate an exchange of views on issues of mutual interest and further deepen the relationship between the English Bar and the Indian legal profession in the wake of two visits by Bar Council delegations to India in 2005 and 2007. The delegation spent two days in London and one day in Manchester. In London the Bar Council held seminars on current developments in intellectual property, cross-border litigation, judicial review and human rights law with leading experts from the Bar. The delegation visited the House of Lords, the Chancery Division and the Manchester Civil Justice Centre courts. The visit was supported by COMBAR, the Chancery Bar Association, the Intellectual Property Bar Association and the Administrative Law Bar Association as well as UK Trade & Investment. The Bar Council and the aforementioned SBAs held a number of social events which enable successful professional networking to take place.
