Plans are underway for a delegation comprised of representatives from both the Bar Council and Law Society to visit Shanghai to deliver a commercial seminar as part of the UK Trade and Investment coordinated UK Financial and Professional Services Week, taking place as part of Shanghai Expo.
Additional activities include an alumni reception for lawyers from the Lord Chancellor’s training scheme (LCTS) and judges from the Great Britain China Centre’s judicial studies training scheme and visits to internationally oriented Chinese law firms. The Bar Council delegation will then visit another major Chinese city during the latter half of the week where it will deliver a seminar in collaboration with the local lawyers association.
The visit presents a great opportunity for barristers to learn about the Chinese legal market, network with Chinese lawyers and raise awareness of the expertise of the English and Welsh Bar and how it can be utilised by Chinese lawyers.
All members of the bar are welcome to apply to join the delegation for the seminars and networking events. There will be opportunities for speaking at seminars on commercial law topics. If interested in participating please submit an application form to Sarah Richardson at SRichardson@BarCouncil.org.uk or on 0207 611 1316 by Friday 11 June. Application forms are available to download from the Bar Council website international pages and are available upon request to Sarah.
To join any of these interest groups please contact Rukaiya Bhegani on RBhegani@BarCouncil.org.uk or on 0207 611 1357.
