The Conference brought together around 700 common law practitioners from around the Commonwealth, most of whom have an international legal practice and are therefore likely to require advice or representation services in matters of English and international law.

The International Team organised a networking reception at one of the Conference hotels, which attracted over 250 delegates and was lauded by many as the most successful networking event at the Conference. The Conference and reception were attended by approximately 25 members of the Bar who found ample opportunity to make or renew professional contacts. The Bar Council manned a well-designed exhibition stall at which we launched the new Directory “Barristers in International Arbitration 2011/12”.

Both the Chairman and the Treasurer addressed the Conference: Peter Lodder QC spoke on “Corporal Criminal Liability” and Andrew Mitchell QC talked about
“Law Reform – The Need for Change”. Overall the Bar was very well represented on the various conference panels, demonstrating once more that the CLC is one of the key international platforms for the Bar, alongside the IBA Annual Conference. The Conference will next take place on 14-18 April 2013 in Cape Town, South Africa, and we hope even more members of the profession will attend.
