Aspiring barristers are promised a very modern experience for the next pupillage application season.
‘Pupillage Gateway’ – the new online pupillage application system – is to be unveiled by the Bar Council in March this year. “Improved functionality” will support the high volume application process. The bespoke system was designed by Jobs Go Public following a competitive tender process involving three other providers.
The system will be operated by the Bar Council, however. Michael Todd QC, outgoing Chairman of the Bar, said: “We decided to take ownership of the new system to ensure the best possible end-user experience, and because, as the body that represents barristers, we are best placed to understand the needs of applicants and recruiters.”
Bar Barometer, published by the Bar Council and BSB in November last year, showed a decrease of 3.1 per cent in first six pupillages in 2010/11, and 3.6 per cent decline in second six pupillages, but a 15.8 per cent increase in tenancies – compared with 2009/10.
