Express Chambers appoints chief clerk as expansion gathers pace
Express Chambers, the advocacy arm of Express Solicitors, has appointed an experienced chief clerk as it continues its expansion alongside the wider growth of the Express group.
Neil McHugh joins the organisation from 7 Harrington Street Chambers in Liverpool, bringing more than 30 years of clerking experience to the role.
He will work closely with Nyssa Crorie, Head of Express Chambers, who joined Express Solicitors as its first employed barrister in December 2016.
“It’s an incredibly exciting time to be joining Express Chambers. As Express Solicitors continues its growth, I can’t wait to help Express Chambers grow and ensure the team can continue to provide a great service to both the solicitors and our clients,” said McHugh.
“I’m particularly looking forward to developing and growing all the talent in the team and being part of the employed Bar.”
The appointment follows the arrival of Partner-Barrister John Sharples and the addition of two new clerks, Helen Benyon and Laura Gibbons.
Express Solicitors has also been investing in the future of the profession. In 2023, the firm announced it would recruit aspiring barristers for the first time after being granted authorised training organisation status by the Bar Standards Board. The move enabled the creation of four pupillage positions within Express Chambers.
