VM v United Kingdom (App. No. 49734/12)

Immigration – Detention. The European Court of Human Rights held that the applicant's immigration detention of nearly two years had been unlawful for a period of just under six months. During that relatively short period, there had been a failure on the United Kingdom authorities' part to conduct domestic proceedings with due diligence, in breach of art 5(1) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
