Criminal evidence and procedure – Judge's charge – Misdirection. High Court of Justiciary: Refusing appeals against conviction and sentence by three appellants who were convicted of murdering a single victim whilst acting in concert and sentenced to life imprisonment, the court rejected contentions that the trial judge had misdirected the jury in relation, inter alia, to concert, self-defence and sufficiency of evidence and held that the punishment parts of 20 years imposed on the appellants, having regard to the violence used, could not be described as excessive.
