Seadrill Ghana Operations Ltd v Tullow Ghana Ltd

Force majeure – Contract. The claimant company succeeded in its claim against the defendant company, in a dispute concerning the hire of a semi-submersible rig from the claimant by the defendant. The Commercial Court held that the defendant was unable to rely on a force majeure clause in its contract with the claimant, where one of the two factors preventing it from carrying out drilling work in Ghana had not been a force majeure.
