Personal injury – Causation – Damages – Quantum. Court of Session: In a personal injury action in which the pursuer sought damages in respect of a back injury he sustained in an accident at work, liability being admitted, the court found that the accident accelerated the onset of symptoms referable to the pre-existing condition of the pursuer's spine by about 18 months, rather than causing an exacerbation, for about 3 months, of symptoms that were already present arising from the pre-existing condition; it awarded £12,000 for solatium and, having found that the pursuer's partner did fall with the relevant statutory definition of 'a relative', £7,686 for necessary services she had rendered to him.
