European Union – Freedom of movement. The Court of Justice of the European Union gave a preliminary ruling in which it decided that art 45 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union had to be interpreted as precluding legislation of a member state in accordance with which a worker residing there was required to register in that member state a motor vehicle which he owned, but which was already registered in another member state and was intended essentially for use in that latter state.
