European Union – Jurisdiction. The parents of a minor child, habitually resident in Italy, on behalf of that child, sought judicial authorisation before the Greek courts to renounce an inheritance intended for that child following the death of the child's maternal grandfather who had died intestate in Greece. The Court of Justice of the European Union gave a preliminary ruling concerning the interpretation of art 12(3)(b) of Council Regulation (EC) No 2201/2003 in relation to the question as to whether the prorogation of jurisdiction in favour of the Greek courts complied with the terms of that provision.
