R (on the application of SG) v Haringey London Borough

Local authority – Housing. The Court of Appeal, Civil Division, dismissed the claimant Afghani national's appeal against the judge's refusal of a declaration that that the defendant local authority was bound to provide her with accommodation. The claimant's argument, that s 18 of the Care Act 2014 established a duty upon an authority to meet 'accommodation-related' care and support needs, was academic, as it did not arise on the facts of the case and was not a matter upon which the judge had delivered a reasoned ruling.
