European Union – Information. The applicant company was the main Cypriot producer of cow's milk used in the production of halloumi cheese. It had sought, pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001, annulment of the European Commission's decision to reject its confirmatory application for access to certain documents relating to the application by the organisation of producers for registration of 'Halloumi' as a protected designation of origin (PDO); and to the earlier application for registration of 'Halloumi' as a PDO. In dismissing the applicant's action, the General Court of the European Union held that the applicant's submissions in support of its application did not justify, for the purposes of art 4 of that regulation, the disclosure of the documents at issue.
