Parent and child – Specific issue order – Change of surname – Christmas contact. Sheriff Court: In a case which involved the unmarried mother and father of two female children who had separated, in which the father sought a specific issue order that the children be known by his surname and the mother sought a specific issue order that they be known by her surname, the court held that on the facts of the case there was much to recommend a solution whereby both surnames were used: as to Christmas contact, alternating contact year about was an appropriate model and as both parties had links with Poland it was appropriate that they should be able to visit Poland with the children for the festive season, a two week period not being unreasonable.
