Criminal law – Appeal. The defendant company had no legal obligation to assist the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs with the UK's obligations under European law in respect of TSE monitoring in sheep. Accordingly, the Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, quashed the defendant company's conviction of an offence under reg 17(1) of the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (England) Regulations 2010 (SI 2010/801). The court also dealt with the issue of a defendant's right to appeal following a plea of guilty.
