The claimant's episiotomy did not heal well after child birth, causing an infection. This caused her to pass faeces through the vagina. The claimant then underwent an operation where a recto-vaginal fistula and a de-functioning colostomy was performed. A few months later, a fistula was still present. After repeat surgeries, she made a claim as the defendant had failed to identify a primary laceration. PSLA was awarded of £65,000.
