Criminal evidence and procedure – Mutual corroboration – Judge's charge – Sufficiency of evidence. High Court of Justiciary: Refusing an appeal by an appellant who was found guilty of eleven charges involving sexual and physical abuse, and who appealed against conviction on five charges involving assault and rape and relating to three different complainers, the court rejected contentions that (1) there had been a miscarriage of justice in respect of those charges because of misdirections on mutual corroboration and (2) that there was insufficient evidence to corroborate two charges of assault using the assault element in a charge of assault and rape involving a different complainer.
