Mental health – Court of Protection. The Court of Protection granted the declarations sought by the family regarding the patient who was in a permanent vegatative state that it was no longer in her best interests to continue to receive artificial nutrition and hydration, and that it was lawful and in her best interests for artificial nutrition and hydration to be withdrawn with the provision of such palliative care, including pain relief, as was considered appropriate to ensure that she suffered the least distress and retained the greatest dignity until such time as her life came to an end.
