Attorney General's Reference; R v Llewhellin

Sentence – Grievous bodily harm. A total sentence of five-years-and-four-months' imprisonment for an offence of grievous bodily harm with intent and an offence of assault by beating, committed against a mother and her seven-year-old child, was held to be unduly lenient. In allowing the Attorney General's Reference under s 36 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, the Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, increased the offender's sentence to a total term of seven‑and‑a‑half years' imprisonment.
