Twenty-two-year extended sentence for 12 counts of sexual offending against children held unduly lenient – . The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, in allowing the Attorney General's reference under s 36 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, held that an extended sentence of 22 years, comprising of a 14-year custodial term and an 8-year extension period, for twelve counts relating to the sexual abuse of three children and the making of indecent images of children, had been unduly lenient. Accordingly, the offender's sentence would be substituted with an extended sentence of 26 years, comprising an 18-year custodial term and an 8-year extension period.
