Sentence – Sexual offences against children. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, held that the offender's sentence of five years' imprisonment, with a further period of one year to be served on licence, for an offence of attempted buggery against his young nephew, had been unduly lenient. That sentence would be quashed and substituted with a custodial term of seven years and six months' imprisonment, with an additional one-year period to be served on licence.
