Anonymity – Court proceedings. The Queen's Bench Division granted the claimant's (C) application to set aside an anonymity order, in a case where that order had been made in favour of witnesses to C's claim, against the defendant local authority, for damages as a result of physical and sexual abuse suffered by C whilst in foster care. Some of those witnesses had been found by the court to be the perpetrators of that abuse. In the circumstances, the principle for open justice prevailed, as there was no evidence to suggest that the consequences of the witnesses being identified would be so severe as to require their continued anonymity.
