*R v Senna

Criminal law – Trial. The authorities providing that it was very important that jurors were not asked to retire late in an afternoon, especially a Friday afternoon prior to a bank holiday weekend, no longer obtained. The Court of Appeal, Criminal Division, held that, after the amendment to s 13 of the Juries Act 1974, there was no pressure on jurors to return verdicts quickly or face seclusion away from friends and family in a hotel and the references to the authorities in practitioner text books needed to be updated accordingly.
