*R (on the application of Hambleton and others) v Coroner for the Birmingham Inquests (1974)

Coroner – Inquest. The defendant coroner had not posed the right question on the scope of the inquests, in ruling that investigation into the identity of the suspected perpetrators of the Birmingham bombings would not be dealt with as part of the inquiry. Accordingly, the Divisional Court quashed the coroner's decision and offered guidance on factors which might bear upon his decision.
