*R (on the application of AB (a child, by his Litigation Friend)) v Secretary of State for Justice (Equality and Human Rights Commission intervening)

Children and young persons – Detention. The Administrative Court declared that the defendant Secretary of State had breached rules on removal from association and education, and art 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, in effectively removing the claimant 16-year-old in a young offender institution from association. However, the claimant's detention had not been treatment which had breached art 3 and prolonged solitary confinement of a young person for more than 15 days did not, of itself, breach art 3.
