Human rights – Inhuman or degrading treatment. The respondent victims of John Worboys, the black cab rapist, were entitled to compensation from the appellant Metropolitan Police Commissioner, for breach of art 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, given the significant errors by the police in each of the investigations into the crimes committed against them. The Supreme Court, in affirming the lower court decisions, considered the nature of the duty to investigate ill-treatment amounting to a violation of art 3.
