Appointment of Judge of Appeal

Applications are invited from on and off-Island candidates for the office of Judge of Appeal to take up office in October 2022. The resident Judge of Appeal will preside over cases in the Appeal Division of the High Court of Justice of the Isle of Man.

This is a Crown appointment made by Her Majesty The Queen pursuant to section 3A of the High Court Act 1991, as amended. The appointment will be on the advice of a Selection Panel.

Candidates for this position must meet the following criteria:-

The current or former holder of high judicial office (whether part or full-time) in the Isle of Man or elsewhere within the British Isles for a minimum of 5 years;

A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Manx law and the Manx community or an ability and a commitment to gain such knowledge and understanding;

A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Rules of the High Court of Justice of the Isle of Man and of Manx court practice and procedure at first instance and appellate level or an ability and a commitment to gain such knowledge and understanding;

Sufficient directly relevant previous judicial experience (preferably at appellate level in civil, family and criminal cases).
