Based in Gray’s Inn Square, The Council of the Inns of Court (COIC) is a charity and company limited by guarantee. Founded by the Inns of Court (“the Inns”) in 2014, COIC works with them in strengthening the rule of law through excellence in professional and ethical education for students, pupils and barristers and in maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct.
COIC facilitates collaboration between the Inns to develop policies and activities; it delivers, through the Inns of Court College of Advocacy, training to student barristers and other qualified advocates in the practice and ethics of advocacy in court; and runs tribunals which consider discipline and misconduct matters concerning both student members of the Inns and those who have been called to the Bar. Director COIC – The Role & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of COIC’s strategy
- Take overall responsibility for day-to-day management and leadership across the areas in which COIC operates
- Work closely with the President and the four Sub/Under Treasurers and a senior leadership team
- Have a strong interest in, and empathy for, the Inns' student, advocacy and educational activities and
- Work collaboratively with the Inns, the profession and external organisations
