The SDT is recruiting for two Deputy Clerks to join the clerking team

Who are we?

The SDT is an independent statutory Tribunal that adjudicates upon alleged breaches of the rules and regulations applicable to solicitors and their firms.

We hear cases of alleged misconduct by solicitors, registered European Lawyers, registered foreign lawyers and employees of solicitors’ firms.

The Role

The SDT is recruiting for two Deputy Clerks to join the clerking team. Deputy Clerks provide legal advice to Panels determining allegations, applications and appeals from SRA decisions.

As a legal advisor to the Tribunal, you will attend hearings and provide support, advice and guidance on law and procedure. You will be responsible for drafting memoranda following Case Management Hearings as well as Orders and Judgments following Substantive Hearings. You will have a quasi-judicial role in terms of effective case management decisions.

Required

You will need to be a solicitor or barrister with at least 10 years’ PQE, obtained ideally from either a civil or criminal litigation role in private practice or a similar role in-house.

You need to be confident, assertive and credible. You will need to be able to absorb, analyse and summarise complex material quickly and accurately. Strong presentation and communication skills are also essential, as is the ability to work well as part of a team.

Process

To apply, please contact us at recruitment@solicitorsdt.com with a CV and a covering letter (of no more than two sides of A4) setting out how you meet the requirements set out in the job description below. We will consider all applications received, shortlist against the person specification and invite potential candidates to an interview.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Thursday 22 February 2024. Please note that we reserve the right to close the application window early. We expect to hold first interviews remotely via Zoom during the week commencing w/c 4 March 2024 with final interviews during the week commencing 18 March 2024.

Please visit www.solicitorstribunal.org.uk for further information including the Job Description and Candidate Information Pack.
