The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Cayman Islands) is currently inviting applications for the following posts:

Crown Counsel (Criminal) x 2

Crown Counsel (Financial Crime)

CI $98,952 - $114,768 (USD $118k-$137k)

The Office of the DPP is looking to expand and to recruit three Crown Counsel. One Crown Counsel role is to focus on financial crime. The other two roles will ideally focus on general crime, rape and serious sexual offences.

These are demanding but professionally rewarding positions, suited to practitioners who can demonstrate sound judgment, integrity and strong written and oral advocacy skills.

The Role

Counsel will be expected to:

  • Provide charging decisions.
  • Provide specialist written charging advice and ongoing legal advice.
  • Prosecute cases in court for at least 12 days each month.
  • Review and prosecute offences before the Summary Court, Grand Court and Court of Appeal.
  • Manage a busy caseload, often working to tight deadlines.

About you

You must:

  • Be a qualified barrister, solicitor, or attorney-at-law in an English-speaking Commonwealth jurisdiction with at least 5 years PQE in criminal law.
  • Have experience prosecuting.
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of case management and successful advocacy.
  • Have strong analytical and drafting skills.
  • Be able to manage competing priorities under time pressure, and
  • Have high standards of integrity, impartiality and professional conduct.

Where applicable, you will also have expertise and a desire to conduct cases involving financial crime or sexual offences.

The successful applicant(s) will also have excellent drafting, legal research, analytical, and computer skills. They will be a team player with strong interpersonal skills.
