Appleby is a leading offshore law firm with offices across multiple key offshore and onshore jurisdictions.

Our reputation for top quality work consistently attracts an elite client base of blue-chip companies and high net worth individuals.

Our Cayman Islands office is looking to recruit junior barristers to its fast-growing Dispute Resolution team to work on its high-profile portfolio of complex commercial, financial services, and insolvency litigation in the Cayman Islands.

Our team’s work and clients are of the highest quality, and we seek practitioners to join us who have the drive and ability to flourish in a highly professional, friendly and thriving global organisation.

Outside of practice, the Cayman Islands affords a high-quality of Caribbean living, along with excellent opportunities for travel (with flights from Grand Cayman direct to Miami, Jamaica, Cuba, Central America, London, and New York, among others). With no income tax, it is an economically attractive place to live, work and develop your career.

Applications are sought from barristers c. 3 to 7 years’ call with very strong academics, and proven relevant experience from a leading Commercial or Commercial/Chancery set. The attractive remuneration package of a taxfree basic salary and discretionary bonus, together with private healthcare, pension contributions, and other benefits such as remote working, will be commensurate with the calibre of the desired applicant(s).

The successful applicant will:

• have excellent technical legal skills. Our caseload typically involves complex cross-border issues, insolvency, asset tracing, and complex financial disputes.

• be able to assume responsibility for advocacy against Leading Counsel, on major commercial litigation heard in Cayman’s specialist Financial Services Division and in appellate Courts.

• be able to handle a large caseload with minimal supervision and demonstrate the ability to maintain and build on existing client relationships to attract future work.

• possess excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

This is a rare opportunity to work on some of the largest and globally recognised offshore cases, with a high-profile team, and will suit those with a desire to work in a collegiate environment where the focus is on excellence.

Applicants must be admitted in a Commonwealth jurisdiction and possess a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualified experience in a Commonwealth jurisdiction. Applications will be considered from pupils / junior tenants who meet that requirement based on prior experience before going to the English Bar.

To learn more about this opportunity and to submit your application by way of CV and covering letter, please email David Lee at Appleby – dlee@applebyglobal.com.

Appleby is committed to being an inclusive employer. We encourage applications from all eligible candidates. Talk to us about reasonable adjustments to support you through the application process. We’re happy to discuss how we can help you work flexibly in a way that balances your needs with the needs of the team and our business.
