The Bar Standards Board (BSB) scheme, which has been approved by the Legal Services Board, modernises the authorisation process and makes it compliant with the Legal Services Act 2007.

During the registration process, barristers will be asked to verify their contact details; verify their practising status and entitlement to exercise reserved legal activities; confirm they have completed their CPD requirement, paid their practising certificate fee, and obtained sufficient indemnity insurance; and sign a declaration of truth.

Renewal will be completed online, and chambers and employers will be able to apply for block authorisation.
