Interim guidelines on prosecuting cases involving communications sent via social media have been issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The guidelines, which are out for public consultation, set out the approach that prosecutors should take when making decisions in relation to cases where it is alleged that criminal offences have been committed by the sending – or retweeting –of a communication via social media.
Whilst the guidelines have immediate effect, they will be reviewed in light of the responses received to the consultation, which ends on 13 March. See www.cps.gov.uk.
