Policing and crime

The Bar Council has produced a parliamentary briefing on the Policing and Crime Bill 2009, which received its second Commons reading last month.

The paper urges Parliamentarians to consider carefully the changes to proceeds of crime, extradition legislation and the provisions that create an offence of strict liability relating to prostitution. “While this last provision may serve to discourage the use of prostitutes, it raises the question of at what cost. If the cost is fairness, that cost is too great.”
