Launch of the British Pakistani Lawyers Association

On 4 October the Bar Council and the Law Society assisted in the launch of the British Pakistan Law Association. This new bilateral lawyers association aims to bring together all British practitioners (barristers as well as solicitors) interested in the assisting with the development of the rule of law, and to enable them to build professional contacts with this important Asian Commonwealth jurisdiction.

The keynote speech was given by renowned Pakistani human rights lawyer Asma Jahangir, who was a driving force behind the creation of the Association. Bilateral Law Associations can be a very useful tool to develop barristers’ international practice and we would recommend that anyone with an interest in Pakistan contact Hafsah Masood [email:], a barrister member on the Organising Committee, for details of becoming a member. The first AGM is planned for end of November/beginning of December (TBC).
