The Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice have announced a new publications policy in relation to judicial conduct matters, which applies from 1 June 2012.
A press statement will normally be placed on the Office for Judicial Complaints website where a formal disciplinary sanction has been imposed on a judge or magistrate following a finding of misconduct, or where the judge or magistrate requests that this be done.
The press statements relating to disciplinary sanctions below suspension or removal from office will be removed from the website after one year. Where the judge or magistrate was suspended or removed from office, however, the press statement will stay up for five years.
However, based on the individual circumstances of the case, the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice may jointly decide to issue press statements in any case, to decline to issue a statement or to remove statements from the website.
