The BSB continues to believe that it is in the public interest to maintain a single mutual indemnity provider for the selfemployed Bar, as the mutual model is beneficial and may not continue to be sustainable otherwise. In practice this would mean that self-employed barristers would continue to use BMIF for their basic cover.

As part of the consultation, comments are welcome (particularly from representatives of lay consumers) about the extent to which this model continues to be appropriate. It will be a matter for BMIF whether they wish to offer indemnity cover to entities but the BSB does not propose to oblige entities to use a specific provider. Again, views as part of consultation responses will be appreciated.
