On 27 and 28 September a delegation from the Federal Bar Council of Brazil (OAB), led by their President Ophir Cavalcante, visited London for a series of meetings designed to create closer relations between the Brazilian and English legal professions.
The Bar Council’s International Committee had designed Brazil a priority jurisdiction, given the significant growth of its international trade, which brings with it an increasing demand for international legal services. The International Committee had useful discussions with the OAB about the services the Bar can provide to Brazilian law firms and the legal services available to Brazilian clients in London (see www. unlockingdisputes.com). Vice-Chairman Maura McGowan QC co-hosted a networking reception, attended by more than 30 barristers. The Bar Council is planning to organise a trade mission to Brazil towards the end of 2013 which will be widely advertised to the profession.
