The vocational stage of training for the Bar (the Bar Professional Training Course) is delivered by Providers at sites in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham. In order to assure quality and standards, the BSB carefully monitors the course by carrying out visits to all Providers each year, and also by using a system of External Examiners.
We are currently looking for more barristers and legal academics who may be keen to be involved in this important work. A monitoring visit generally takes 1-2 days including reading documentation, visiting, and commenting on a draft report. No fee is payable to practitioners but all expenses are met. External Examining work (for which a fee is paid) consists of 2-3 visits to a Provider over a year, and extensive sampling of student work, as well as writing interim and final reports.
