Together with the Law Society, the Bar Council recently hosted the President of the All China Lawyers Association (ACLA) Mr. Yu Ning and regional bar association leaders from Zhejiang, Guangdong and Guizhou.
The week-long visit served to strengthen the Bar’s relationship with the ACLA, a key partner in the delivery of the Lord Chancellors Training Scheme for Chinese Lawyers, and enabled productive discussions about the scheme’s future. Further, the group were interested to learn about the impact of the Legal Services Act 2007 on the profession, and about the training of barristers. Lively discussions were had with the Director of the DPP, Ken MacDonald QC, and the Attorney General, Patricia Scotland QC, and the delegation enjoyed meeting barristers in both Manchester and London.
