Responding to the QC Appointment’s consultation, panel chair Elisabeth Davies said “broadening eligibility should create a larger pool of talent to draw upon”, which would increase diversity among QCs. The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives went further and suggested that the rank be open to all lawyers, not just those who appear in court. CILEx said there is too much emphasis on advocacy, which is rare in some areas of law.
