Crown Prosecutor/Crown Counsel (Criminal)

Applications are invited for the position of Crown Prosecutor/Crown Counsel (Criminal) in St Helena.

St Helena is part of the UK Overseas Territory of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. It is a sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a small and friendly local population.

The Crown Prosecutor prosecutes and advises on criminal related matters on behalf of the Attorney General. They conduct criminal prosecutions in the Magistrates Court and the Supreme Court, prepare and appear in appeals to the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal and provide expert legal advice to the police.

The role also involves advising other government departments on criminal matters. The Crown Prosecutor also prosecutes and advises on cases in Ascension and Tristan da Cunha when requested by the Attorney General.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to prosecute and advise on the full range of criminal offences in a unique setting.

The Crown Prosecutor is based in the Attorney General’s Chambers in St Helena. Also based in chambers are the Attorney General, a Solicitor General, a number of Crown Counsel, a Legislative Drafter and support staff.

Applications are invited form a UK or Commonwealth qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial experience in criminal law. Applicants will have run their own caseloads and have significant experience of advocacy in criminal matters

Our Benefits Package Includes:

• Salary: £48,000 pa

• Relocation Allowances: £3,000-£5,200, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at sthelenapublicservicejobs.sh

• Annual Pension Contribution of 7.5% of salary

• Annual Leave of 30 days per annum plus Public Holidays
