HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. About the role
We’re looking for qualified lawyers, including barristers, solicitors and fellows of CILEX to join us. You will be supported through your training period of 12-18 months to become a fully authorised Legal adviser at which time you’ll be qualified to advise magistrates on legal practice and procedure and assist them with the formulation and drafting of responses etc. Specialising in family law, you’ll work across a variety of cases and legal challenges.
As well as providing legal advice to magistrates, you’ll be required to exercise a range of authorised judicial functions. Not only will this draw on your sound legal skills, but you’ll need to demonstrate judicial independence, integrity and impartiality at all times.
Your experience and skills
You’ll need to be a qualified solicitor, barrister or fellow of CILEX, including completion of your professional experience. Depending on your experience, you’ll then need to complete up to 12 months of training. Depending on experience, it may be 18 months before you qualify. Your training will include legal study of the law, practice and procedure of a range of different courts, and your progress will be monitored throughout.
