The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Cayman Islands Government, is currently inviting applications for the following post:

CROWN COUNSEL - FINANCIAL CRIME

SALARY: CI$81,252.00 – CI$89,700.00 per annum (approx £80,000 - £86,000)

On behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Crown Counsel (Financial Crime) will be responsible for conducting prosecutions and complex criminal litigation at all levels of the Court system, including the Court of Appeal. Crown Counsel (Financial Crime) will also be required to assist with processing requests for international mutual legal assistance as well as advising Law Enforcement Agencies, Government Departments and Statutory Authorities.

The successful applicant may be expected to travel to conferences and training workshops in other Caribbean jurisdictions and globally for FATF, Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Terrorist Financing training purposes.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Applicants for this position should be a Solicitor, Barrister or Attorney-at-Law qualified to practise in an English-speaking Commonwealth jurisdiction. Applicants must also:

  • possess a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience including significant experience of financial crime (preferably with experience of international financial offences.)
  • be familiar with the laws and legal systems of England & Wales and other Commonwealth jurisdictions, and have a sound knowledge of criminal law, human rights and constitutional law, and laws of evidence, practice and procedure, possess the ability to work under pressure handling sensitive matters
  • be able to give clear and accurate advice and work within the Code for Crown Prosecutors
  • possess strong interpersonal, negotiation, research and
  • be able to render prompt and effective legal advice at very short notice.
  • have a proven aptitude as an advocate

The remuneration package for this role includes a non-contributory Government Pension Scheme plus medical and dental coverage. There is no direct taxation of income in the Cayman Islands.
