Join the Crown Prosecution Service for a one year secondment

Are you a former barrister or solicitor looking to return to a career in criminal law? The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is offering a one-year secondment if you’ve had a career break and are considering a return.

About the role

Go Prosecute for Senior Crown Prosecutors is a one-year secondment, with the option to extend to two years. It’s an excellent opportunity to return to criminal law, develop your confidence after a career break, and further your knowledge and experience. You can work with experienced lawyers to gain experience and exposure to a wide range of cases - with tailored training.

As a senior crown prosecutor, you work on some of the most complex and challenging cases – from fraud and firearms offences to public order and corporate manslaughter. Depending on your experience and agreed working patterns, you could be based in a magistrates’ unit, Crown Court, or Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit. Or you might work in a specialised unit such as our Serious Economic Organised Crime and International Directorate, or with CPS Direct, our out-of-hours service.

You represent the Crown Prosecution Service on the frontline, collaborating closely with colleagues and other criminal justice agencies, including the police and judiciary. You play a vital role in maintaining public confidence in our work.

About you

We’re looking for former barristers and solicitors with a passion for criminal law, and a commitment to delivering justice, looking to return after a career break. You must be focused on personal development and career progression, with a willingness to challenge yourself. You receive specialised training and direct support to help you return to criminal law as seamlessly as possible.

About our benefits

At the Crown Prosecution Service, we are proud to put our employees’ requirements front and centre. We want to ensure you can thrive at work and home – and offer a range of support to achieve a balance. This includes:
