Senior Crown Advocate

 

Are you an experienced lawyer looking to progress into trial advocacy? The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) are looking for Senior Crown Advocates to join our advocacy units across England and Wales.

At the CPS, our duty is to make sure the right person is prosecuted for the right offence. We are responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of criminal cases that have been investigated by the police, and other investigative organisations. As the principal prosecuting authority across England and Wales the nature and diversity of cases we advise on and prosecute means our work is complex and challenging. Here we employ over 7,000 individuals who think objectively, act professionally, show the upmost respect for others and continually strive for excellence.

The Senior Crown Advocate role is one of the most senior advocacy roles in the CPS, being at the frontline of our work. In this role you will conduct jury trials for serious, sensitive and complex cases using your skills in advocacy to present in court and provide clear decision making to all those involved with the case. You will have a range of responsibilities covering analysing, reviewing, preparing, and presenting in the magistrates’ court and Crown Court. Therefore, you are expected to have Higher Rights of Audience for criminal proceedings. Advocacy is a vital function of CPS work; every advocate plays an important role, and every advocate can make a difference at every hearing. Our advocates play an invaluable part in delivering justice at court; through their decision making, providing support to victims and witnesses, communicating with the defence and giving assistance to Benches and Judges.
