GCHQ - Legal Advisers
Ingenious with integrity? GCHQ wants you.
At GCHQ, we work to keep the nation safe from various threats – from cyber attacks and espionage, to terrorism and organised crime. Working closely with MI5 and MI6, our partners in the intelligence community, your work will be both meaningful and challenging and unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else.
Depending on your interests and skills, you’ll join one of three specialist areas within our Legal team. You might provide expert advice about the legality of particular intelligence gathering operations. Or, passionate about employment-related matters, you could offer world-class advice on everything from day-to-day cases, to more complex ones. In another area, you could apply your interest in commercial and public law, to look at laws and matters relating to the National Cyber Security Centre (a part of GCHQ). But no matter in which of these areas your expertise lies, you’ll get to expand your skills in a stimulating environment where you’ll make our work possible and ensure we operate within strict legal safeguards.
Ideally, along with excellent general legal skills, you possess knowledge of, and experience, in one or more of the following areas of law: public law, human rights law, international law, European law, employment law, commercial law, information law, litigation. Your sound judgement means you analyse situations effectively and make decisions confidently. An outstanding communicator, you instil trust in clients and make them feel at ease. Able to work under pressure, you can balance priorities and work at pace. And, keen to broaden your skills, you’ll proactively learn new areas of law and drive your learning forward.
While the role is challenging, our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance. All of the posts are open to individuals who wish to have flexible working patterns.
Closing date: 29th December 2017.
